Speaker 1 00:00:03 Hi, and welcome to does this make me local, a podcast about aging as gracefully as possible when you're just not ready for two 40 something year old friends will find themselves kind of straddling that really odd period of time when aging and everything that is associated with is starting to become a much bigger part of our lives. We're definitely curious, but at the same time, rather terrified about aging. I'm Schiff. I'm a health science nerd and pop culture themes, and I'm SIM and adult and waiting obsessed with finance and self-help books. We're going to be talking about the stereotypes of aging and how they affect us. And we'll also be doing some deeper dives into some interesting topics, such as what it's like to get old in the society dating when you're older and scientific advancements in anti-aging products and even evolution and scientific thinking around aging and throughout it, all we chat rant laugh about are adulting mishaps of which there are so, so, so many. So join us as we navigate our second quarter-life crisis.
Speaker 2 00:01:09 Hi, and welcome to this week's episode of does this make me look old? Hey Schiff. Hey Sam,
Speaker 0 00:01:14 How's it going? Not bad. Not bad
Speaker 2 00:01:19 December.
Speaker 0 00:01:20 I know, right? Time totally flies. It's so crazy. It's so like, I think it's kind of crazy, cause it's weird. Cause like, you know, initially I was like, oh, well I know we talk about this a lot, but like we thought, oh, we'll only have a dozen episodes. And like now we're in December and we have like, like this crazy number that we didn't think of in the beginning.
Speaker 2 00:01:44 We talk a lot probably. No, I think, I think it's also because there's just so much to talk about. Like there's just every time, like we, we run out of time and not the topic because you know, there's just so much to say about every single topic that we've talked about.
Speaker 0 00:02:03 No, for sure. And the thing is is that like, I don't know, every day something comes up and you're just like, Hey, that can actually be about aging. We could talk about this on the pod. So yeah, it's kind of, yeah, it is kind of crazy. But then at the same time, like I thought to myself, you know, we, we could get a lot of episodes and I think we have, we've done it.
Speaker 2 00:02:22 You used to call it. I have to say you were like, you know, we might actually actually have a lot of different topics to talk about. And I was like, how many could we have? You know,
Speaker 0 00:02:33 Other than aging sucks.
Speaker 2 00:02:40 It was interesting because I think I was thinking like, why do we constantly, you know, come back to these topics? And I think it's because we, you know, even when we were doing our research and we're listening to podcasts, we're reading articles, we're reading books. Um, and you know, there's always beautiful stories out. There's a lot of hope out, you know, like things, but there's still a lot of confusion and worry as well about getting older or even regret. Um, and a lot of reflection. And, and I think that because you and I, we're both similar in that, you know, we're both kind of like, dude, what do we do? How do we figure it out, navigate this second quarter life crisis of ours? You know, that's probably one of the reasons I think that we never seem to run out of topics cause we're always like worried about all of them.
Speaker 0 00:03:39 Yeah. So listeners, yeah. We've gifted you with our anxieties. You're welcome. I know it's like an early holiday present.
Speaker 2 00:03:53 Merry Christmas, everyone. Happy holidays. Uh, what is happening this month ship? Do you want to talk a little bit about that?
Speaker 0 00:04:07 Exactly. So I think like, so in no now I can't even remember was it may or June anyway, we did like this little kind of like reset podcast. We were talking about what we kind of wanted to do with this podcast and how we wanted to talk about things to do with advocacy or use the podcast as like an avenue for advocacy. Um, as well as talk about our anxieties and worries.
Speaker 2 00:04:31 It's a judgment free platform,
Speaker 0 00:04:34 No judgements here as part of that. Um, we've decided to go on a little bit of a hiatus mainly because, you know, it's the, it's the holiday season and it's kind of about time to like, you know, hang out with your families and friends and just enjoy some downtime. But then, um, so seminars are actually going to also be taking the hiatus to, uh, kind of like look at what we've accomplished over the year and also kind of what we're thinking about doing for the next year with regard to new topics, new guests, that type of thing. So yeah, so it's a little bit of a reset for us as well. Um, but in the meantime I think, uh, we didn't want to completely abandon you. So if you still want to listen to our lovely dulcet tones, you can still chat with, or at least, you know, listen, listen to us chat about topics that were popular, um, during the year. So we'll, uh, repost some of those and uh, yeah. And you can revisit them and uh, yeah, and also, uh, this will give you like a chance to catch up on maybe episodes that you might've missed or right in, right in on social and or, um, uh, email us about, um, things that you agree with us about disagree with us about that type of thing. So
Speaker 2 00:05:53 I don't see this though, preferably Insta at us, I spend a little bit more time on IgG than I do on other
Speaker 0 00:06:05 Yes. SIM is very religious about checking our Insta handles. So yeah,
Speaker 2 00:06:11 Not always because I spend an awful lot of time looking at reels. Oh
Speaker 0 00:06:17 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:06:20 Oh my God. Like I spent so much time looking at those that I think I've literally spent a good chunk of this year, 2021 on IgG reels and Tech-Talk, but I think I'll just go by all the hacks and ideas and the music and the dances and all the cute puppies and kittens and babies, natural tips and the health tips and the aging tips, uh, fashion tips. Cause I know I need those. Um, so I feel like I've, I've spent a lot of time on, on that platform.
Speaker 0 00:07:02 Yeah. That's okay. That's okay. So anyway, hits him up on our Instagram handle basically,
Speaker 2 00:07:08 But, but you know,
Speaker 0 00:07:12 But you know, Insta, isn't your thing. That's totally cool because we're on other, um, social media handles and uh, we're on, uh, email, so you can always email us and um, we're going to be going to be looking into seeing if you guys can actually send, leave us voice messages if you want. So, um, yeah, so that's something to look forward to maybe in the new year.
Speaker 2 00:07:35 So I'm going to say, um, also that, um, this is your chance, like just, um, send us stories about how this year has been for you and does all the funny things have happened as you know, uh, related to getting older your oh my gosh. Moments and oh my God moments, you know, notice the difference in tone and if not, oh, well, you know, I meant both the scary stuff and the really heartwarming stuff that had happened in this year. Um, uh, let us know and also let us know, uh, which of what topics you want us to cover.
Speaker 0 00:08:18 Yeah. Yeah. We'd love to hear from you. Um, yes. And this and this, uh, like this little hiatus is kind of also about learning from you guys. So if you could, yeah, please write in, let us know what you want us to cover. Um, we're open to all sorts of ideas and really like we're, we're not just doing this podcast for ourselves. We're really doing it for our listeners. So we'd really love to hear from you and know kind of what, um, what avenues you would want us to explore. Yeah. Always open to new ideas. Awesome.
Speaker 2 00:08:48 Anyway, on that note, we'll call this an episode. It's probably a shortest one ever. Yes. Um, uh, but uh, all this to say is have a wonderful holiday season and see you in the new year. Sounds good. Bye everyone.
